DFAF was honored to attend the international conference, Uniting the Global Community to Face the Challenge of Addiction, hosted by International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP), the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) of the UAE, the International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction (ICUDDR), and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). This conference featured distinguished speakers, plenary sessions, trainings, workshops, and networking, to bring the global workforce together and hear the latest research and evidence in the fields of substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery.

DFAF In Action

During this event, DFAF’s Executive Director, Amy Ronshausen, partnered with Carlton Hall, CEO of Carton Hall Consulting, to discuss Prevention in a Changing Marijuana Landscape during a prevention panel. Amy also had the opportunity to speak on lessons learned from marijuana legalization in the US at the African Union meeting, and on Workplace Prevention to several Embassy representatives working on Drug Demand Reduction issues at the 7th Annual DDR Workshop.

DFAF’s program manager, Chantel Lincoln, attended the Universal Recovery Curriculum (URC): The Allies Link and Lend Inventive Engaging Support (Allies Model) training held by the Colombo Plan and Drug Advisory Programme. After the training was completed, Chantel took the International Certified Addiction Professional-Recovery Support (ICAP) Exam to become certified as a Recovery Ally. This certification will be a great accomplishment and will allow DFAF to further our recovery work efforts.

DFAF Building Global Capacity

The conference provided DFAF the opportunity to host an in-person meeting with members of our Global Task Force. The meeting was attended by task force members representing 11 countries and focused on building global capacity through 2023, increasing the number of speakers at international venues, and sharing strategies to enhance prevention efforts around the globe.
