May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month and also features SAMHSA’s National Prevention Week (NPW), an annual health observance week dedicated to increasing awareness and action around substance use prevention and promoting positive mental health.
In recognition of these topics, DFAF joins Johnny’s Ambassadors’ May Marijuana Month Prevention Challenge which aims to raise awareness about the harms to mental health that can occur among youth who use marijuana. Learn more about this challenge and how to join here.
Let’s work together to highlight this critical issue and amplify prevention as summer’s quickly approaching and according to national statistics, is the time when teens and college students most often initiate substance use. Encourage youth to adopt the One Choice health goal which is no use of any alcohol, nicotine, marijuana, or other drugs by youth under age 21 for their physical and mental health. Learn more about the Institute for Behavior and Health’s One Choice prevention message here.
