Brain-Based Tools for Parenting teaches family professionals, parents and caregivers how to utilize the best parenting practices for attunement, co-regulation, and building executive functioning skills. Dr. Crystal Collier, author of The NeuroWhereAbouts Guide and Know Your Neuro: Adventures of a Growing Brain, focuses on adopting brain-based parenting and treatment techniques with tools from her book. She emphasizes empowering parents to build and protect young people’s skills while simultaneously reducing risky behavior such as marijuana use.

Participants will learn:

  1. The neurodevelopmental stages and how to use brain-based praise to increase executive functioning.
  2. How the arrest of neurodevelopmental processes and executive function skills affect youth as they age.
  3. How children co-regulate through attunement, build secure attachment, and grow family unity with family codes.
  4. How to apply prevention science techniques consistently within families and schools to achieve long-lasting protective effects.

Dr. Crystal Collier is an expert in adolescent brain development, prevention programming, parent coaching, addiction, family-of-origin work, and training new counselors. She created an online, plug-n-play prevention program called KnowYourNeuro.org which teaches the neurodevelopmental effects of risky behavior to students, parents, and staff. In 2020, she published her long-awaited neurodevelopmental prevention book, The NeuroWhereAbouts Guide, for parents and families who want to prevent youth high-risk behavior. In 2023, she published, FOO Mapping, for people who want to change their family-of-origin thinking, feeling, and behavioral patterns that no longer serve them and Know Your Neuro: Adventures of a Growing Brain for kids in K-5.
