We’re reading:
Go Ask Alice by Anonymous – As horrifying now as it was when it was first published in 1971, this actual diary from a fifteen year old girl chronicles a teen’s transformation as she is sucked into the drug culture. Someone slips LSD into her soft drink at a party, and her travel into and out of the drug scene begins. You’ll laugh at some of the fashion statements – straightening her hair by rolling it with juice cans – but you’ll cry at the very realistic and hard-hitting portrayal of the slavery that is addiction. Amazingly current in some of its themes as she deals with body image issues and prescription drug abuse, this book is worth your time.
