Prevention Group Applauds Britain’s Reclassification of Cannabis

St. Petersburg , FL (5/15/08) - Drug Free America Foundation, Inc. today applauded British Prime Minister Gordon Brown for his decision to reclassify cannabis to a B Class drug in the United Kingdom.  Last week the Home Office in the United Kingdom announced that: “Cannabis will be reclassified as a Class B drug, sending a strong message that the drug is harmful and should not be taken.”

Vancouver’s injection site proven ineffective and cost prohibitive

St. Petersburg, FL (04/14/08) – Drug Free America Foundation, Inc. today reacted to the final report of Health Canada’s Expert Advisory Committee (EAC) indicating that INSITE’s drug injection site in Vancouver has proven ineffective and cost prohibitive.  Drug Free America Foundation’s Executive Director Calvina Fay is urging the Canadian government to withdraw support for the pilot program.

(San Francisco, California 2/5/08) - Law enforcement officers and organizations from across North America are questioning assertions made at Beyond 2008, a forum of non-governmental organizations being held this week in Vancouver.  “Claims made by Jack Cole and his organization, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, that law enforcement officers are against fighting drug abuse and are for the legalization of drugs fly in the face of reality,” said Ron Brooks, President of the National Narcotic Officers’ Association Coalition.

North American Non-governmental Organizations Overwhelmingly Agree to Preserve UN Conventions on Drugs

(St. Petersburg, FL) On January 24th and 25th, Drug Free America Foundation hosted a North American Consultation that included more than 60 key stakeholders from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) around Canada and the United States. This Consultation was an opportunity for NGOs to have a voice regarding the drug conventions of the United Nations (UN).

Overwhelmingly, the attendees expressed a strong desire to preserve the UN conventions on drugs and further articulated their excitement about being able to contribute their expertise to help shape international drug policy.

New Regulations Will Set Federal Security Standards for State Issuance of Driver’s Licenses and Identity Cards

WASHINGTON, 1/11/2008 – On Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued its final regulations for the REAL ID Act of 2005.  The Coalition for a Secure Driver’s License (CSDL) joins with Drug Free America Foundation and the Association of Community Employment Programs for the Homeless (A.C.E.) in endorsing the final regulations. 

The regulations set standards for states to meet the requirements of the REAL ID Act and include security features, verification information of applicants to establish identity and lawful presence and physical security standards for state locations where licenses and identity cards are issued.
