California and Cannabis
Dr. Drew discusses the California Medical Association’s (CMA) new social policy recommendations to reschedule medical cannabis and regulate marijuana for recreational use. Dr. Donald Lyman, Chair of the California Medical Association, says these recommendations were made because doctors are now becoming the gatekeepers for access to cannabis, but there is no gate, no regulatory structure. He claims that the rescheduling of marijuana may provide this much-needed structure in states, such as California, where doctors are allowed to recommend marijuana for so-called medicinal use. Dr.
The Dangers of Dragon Fly
Dragon Fly, a new designer drug that was originally manufactured as a research chemical used on rats, is responsible for sending a wave of young people to hospitals nationwide. The drug is described to come in pill form or in blotters (paper soaked in the drug). Doctors claim it is highly toxic even in small doses. Beware of this dangerous new legal synthetic drug that is just another in a long line of such drugs, such as K2 and Spice, both of which are now banned by the DEA.
Florida’s Oxytots: Treating the Victims
Dr. Jean McCarthy, member of Drug Free America Foundation’s Institute on Global Drug Policy, discusses Florida’s prescription drug epidemic. She details the powerful, unintended consequences, such as prenatal exposure to dangerous and addictive opiate-based drugs. Captured in this video report is the statistic that 24 of 80 babies (30 %) born in a bay area hospital were addicted to Oxycontin. Dr. McCarthy explains that when born, these babies needed to be treated with methadone for their addiction.
