A True Victory: The City of Los Angeles Bans All Pot Dispensaries

On Tuesday, the LA City Council voted, 14-0, to close all marijuana dispensaries within the city. The more than 750 pot shops in violation of federal law will be shut down within 30 days of Mayor Villaraigosa signing the ban.
 
Police Chief Charlie Beck said the Los Angeles ban is needed because the city's dispensaries have a "toxic mixture of high-level narcotics and high amounts of cash."
 
These criminal enterprises, making millions and operating under the guise of non-profit businesses, are a severe threat to communities throughout California. Increased crime, the level of accessibility of marijuana to children, and the direct marketing to children only scratches the surface of problems when discussing the need to rid the entire state of these menacing albatrosses.
