Synthetic Marijuana, Still Available and Still Dangerous!

Synthetic Marijuana, Still Available and Still Dangerous!

Although the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has banned certain chemicals known as synthetic cannabinoids or fake pot, the challenge continues to be curbing the circulation of new, similar, synthetic drugs.

These synthetic forms of cannabinoids have been extremely hard to control because as fast as states can ban them, slight changes are made to the chemical formula resulting in a new form of basically the same dangerous drug. Fake pot has sent users to emergency rooms across the country complaining of everything from elevated heart rates and paranoia to vomiting. It also is believed to affect the central nervous system, causing severe, potentially life-threatening hallucinations and, in some cases, seizures.

In this case, not only is this user severely addicted to the drug, he is committing food stamp fraud to purchase the substance. The store clerk is also on board with the scam! A solution may be to change policy and not only ban the individual chemicals, but also prohibit the sale and possession of any chemicals that mimic controlled substances.
